What is Ireland like to work in if you are unskilled, poorly educated and possibly even homeless? How do bosses treat the minimum wage workers? Are you as horrified as I am to discover that modern-day slavery and indentured servitude exists in modern Ireland? As professionals, as I'm sure most of our listeners are, we often forget the great advantage we gained in our access to education and personal growth in what is by any measure, an affluent society. Rares-Mihai Nicula is the Roma Programme officer with Dublin City Community Cooperative. Rares’ work which is funded through the Department of Justice and Equality*, aims to tackle poverty, social exclusion and long-term unemployment for disadvantaged individuals. This is a fascinating conversation that I'm sure you'll enjoy.
* I incorrectly credited the wrong government department in my audio intro. My bad; the ultimate funder is the public purse so I guess there are worse mistakes!
